AppFive Professional software services for microscopists, by microscopists

Academic EM Labs

AppFive can help you build new software applications that optimize your labs workflow or helps you perform a new experiment on any of your instruments. Our team of entrepeneurial application software developers have intimate knowledge of the various electron microscopy applications and equipment (SEM, TEM, FIB,  EDS, EELS, etc.) and could be a excellent partner to implement your workflow optimization projects or new experiments.

There is a continued desire by electron microscopists to increase the information you can obtain from samples being investigated using electron microscopes.  The recent development of novel electron optical elements (aberration correctors etc.), detectors, sample holders and sample preparation equipment, have allowed electron  microscopy groups and instrument manufacturers to take nanotechnology research to new limits. In-situ microscopy and sub-Angstrom microscopy are becoming widespread techniques. Electron microscopists are faced with massive and ever-increasing data-intensive challenges in imaging, analysis and automation.

Many academic electron microscopy labs have sample preparation and electron microscopes (often from different vendors) and provide services to muliple users, frequently located at multiple locations. Needless to say that managing the complex workflow of a typical electron microscopy facility can be a challenge. Maybe you have a new scientific experiment in mind that needs some software development in order to run in harmony with a particular electron microscope.

AppFive’s approach to developing applications is to integrate existing software with a thin integration layer. By avoiding a large, complex application platform, we can improve robustness and reduce the development time.

Our agile development methods lead to early working prototypes, which means getting (and giving) feedback earlier in the development process. We also use a wide range of software technologies, including C/C++, C#/.NET, COM, SQL, HTML, PHP, Java and JavaScript, so we can interface to virtually any software, and deliver your software using the optimal technology.

Do you have any further questions about what we can offer to your academic electron microscopy lab? Would you like to discuss a potential partnership with AppFive?
